Me and my new 9 to 5 (by Don Fulano)
Well…I’ve started a new position as an optometrist tech at a private practice, and I’ve enjoyed it more than shadowing. There are some parts which are hard to get down, IE the lensometer which measures the refractive power in your glasses (and gives me a good idea of your current prescription.)
it deals with a light in which you change the axis on, the focal point of it etc until you see a circle made up of points and two lines running through the middle of it…
I don’t know why I’m so bad at doing this, but I slightly want to blame my astigmatism and it’s ability to refract light more than usual making it pretty hard to see “clear crisp lines.” When I ask the optometrist to check me, she’ll kind of give me a look and readjusts it and asks if the one she found was much clearer than mine.
about 10/10 times she’s right… I’m just bad at finding these lines.
Another note: I’ve gotten the opportunity to shadow the lens techs at the eye store next door, so I can make glasses and prescribe them! How neat would that be? :]
I’ll end my nerd rant, I wish someone was around to hear me go on and on about it for hours.
