In a book that is 727,969 words long (NIV version), homosexuality is mentioned 12 times.
But somehow, the conservative Christian community has grasped onto this seemingly minor thing as one of two major evils in this society (the other being abortion,…
I like this.
Our job as Christians is NEVER to judge unbelievers. The only people we are called to judge is 1. ourselves and 2. other brothers in Christ (1 Corinthians 5)
We are Christ’s representatives here on earth. We carry his name. So if a brother is sinning, it is all the more important to call him out. We are called to a higher standard. And even so, Paul explains the process of calling out an immoral brother. It is FULL of compassion, forgiveness and grace. It should be done so quietly if possible. And when/if the sinner is repentant, we are instructed to always and completely take them back.
But how can we judge non-believers? As believers we mess up ALL the time, even with the Holy Spirit to guide us, even with Christ’s love and power supporting us, even with the awesome instruction and guidance of God’s word. We have all these things FOR us, and yet we fail daily. How can we judge someone who doesn’t even share an intimate relationship with God?
The saddest and most ironic thing about Christianity is how we are known for being judgmental. Something about the gospel isn’t being understood. If we would take the and just remember Christ’s death for us, “while we were yet sinners,” I think we would finally see a body of Christ that loved the world as Jesus did.
